Jurassic World Film (2015)
Appropriateness Rating: To Avoid
Entertainment Rating: Great
Jurassic World is a 2015 movie that revived the Jurassic Park franchise. It takes place a few years after the incidents in Jurassic Park and now the “amusement” park is fully operational with many visitors coming to see the dinosaurs and enjoy many ‘rides’ with dinosaurs. The island is packed with visitors, including the nephews of the park manager Claire, when one of the dinosaurs, a scary cross between T-Rex and a few other things, gets loose. It earns a rating of “To Avoid” because of several inappropriate scenes that are very rude/crude and should be avoided. If you really want to watch it with your kids, wait until it’s out on DVD and preview it so you can skip those parts, but as the movie isn’t nearly as good as Jurassic Park you may not want to bother with that.
Warnings: crude language, swearing, kissing, many references to boyfriends and girlfriends and crushes, going out on dates, etc.
The inappropriate content starts from the beginning of the movie as the two kids are getting ready to go to the Jurassic World theme park the older boy is saying goodbye to his girlfriend instead of his parents and then as soon as they get to the park he is already looking at other girls, etc.
There is a also a very crude conversation between Claire and the man who works with the raptors when they discuss a past date they went on and he says very crude things, almost saying the f-word and referring to having sex.
Near the end of the movie they kiss each other in front of the two boys and the boys keep referring to him as her “boyfriend” over and over again and making comments about it.
The only theme that was remotely positive is the relationship between the brothers and how they kept helping each other and the older brother became kinder to his younger brother, but it was not done very well in the movie.
They also tried to say something about the dinosaurs being living animals, not just numbers, but again this theme wasn’t really expanded on properly in the movie.
Overall, the movie wasn’t too bad as a movie, but it wasn’t nearly as good as the first Jurassic Park movie and it had so many inappropriate things that we would recommend you wait until it comes out on DVD or skip it entirely.
